Sunday, March 28, is the first in almost two months in which there is no trade ban. However, it should be remembered that additional restrictions have entered into force. Therefore, the stores have stricter limits on people and large-scale DIY stores have been closed.

This is the second shopping Sunday in 2021. In addition, there are to be five more such Sundays: April 25, June 27, August 29, December 12 and December 19.

The act that introduced restrictions on Sunday trading, valid from March 1, 2018. The act provides for a catalog of 32 exemptions. The prohibition does not apply, among others in pastry shops, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, flower shops, newspaper shops or coffee shops.

Coronavirus and shops

It should be remembered that due to the COVID-19 epidemic, there are limits to people in stores depending on the space. In accordance with the changes that entered into force on Saturday, March 27, facilities may contain no more than 1 person per 15 m2 at a time in the case of facilities with an area of ​​not more than 100 m2. On the other hand, in the case of stores with an area of ​​more than 100 m2, 1 person per 20 m2 can stay at the same time.

In shops it is obligatory to cover the mouth and nose.

In addition, shopping centers and galleries with an area of ​​over 2,000 sq m m2 remain closed, with the exception of, among others: grocery stores, pharmacies and drugstores, press salons, bookstores. From Saturday, the operation of large-format furniture and construction stores with an area of ​​over 2,000 sq m was suspended. m2.

Appeal for additional trading Sundays

Due to the applicable restrictions, the shopping center industry appealed to the authorities to set new dates for shopping Sundays.

“As a result of this year’s lockdowns, most tenants could not take advantage of the opportunity to conduct business on Sunday, January 31, and will not be able to run it on March 28 this year.” – the Polish Council of Shopping Centers announced in a press release.

As emphasized, lockdowns were applied to Sundays, January 31 and March 28, 2021, which are two of the seven trading days set this year.

“On these days, according to the provisions of the act, shops in shopping centers are authorized to open. Unfortunately, most tenants could not use the possibility of doing business in January and will not be able to do business before Easter – March 28. in April, June and August and two planned for December “- emphasized the PRCH.

During the Thursday press conference, the head of the government, Mateusz Morawiecki, was asked if the government was considering shifting the trading Sunday calendar so that the industry could recover the closing period at a later time, when no restrictions would apply.

– So far we have not discussed the issue of trade Sundays and any changes in this respect – Morawiecki said.
