Shooting star shower promised for this weekend

The annual shooting star show is on display in the skies, with its peak scheduled for Friday and Saturday night.

Earth approaches the debris trail of comet Swift-Tuttle, source of the annual Perseid meteor shower. Meteor rates are expected to increase rapidly over the next 24 hours, with an expected peak between August 12-13.

the light of full moon will interfere with this cosmic display, overloading the faint meteors with its luminosity.

Shooting stars happen when cosmic dust enters the Earth’s atmosphere and burns at an average speed of 52 kilometers per second.

If it weren’t for the full moon, it would be possible to observe, in the northern hemisphere, one shooting star per minute, a maximum of 100 per hour.

Good show and don’t forget to make a wish for every shooting star you see crossing the skies.
