Shipping company on Sotra received white powder in the mail – the bomb squad on its way

The emergency services have moved out to the premises of Hoyland Offshore at Sotra, after notification that the company has received white powder in the mail.

– We have received an envelope in the mail that contained white powder. The police are handling the situation. An employee who was exposed to the powder has been taken to hospital for isolation and observation, says general manager of Hoyland Offshore, Trym Jacobsen.

The person who was transported to hospital has no symptoms, he says.

The mail was sent to Hoyland Offshore’s offices at Sotra.

The bomb squad assists

Operations Manager at the West Police District, Tatjana Knappen, says that the police are in place and have cordoned off the area.

– Two people have been directly exposed to the powder. Two more people have also been exposed, but not in the same room. At present we do not know what the people have been exposed to.

Police are now awaiting assistance from the bomb squad.

– We take this seriously, says Knappen.

The two people who were directly exposed to the powder have no symptoms, she says.

Can be linked to Ocean Viking

Jacobsen says that the envelope was aimed at the ship Ocean Viking. The ship has been in the news several times, due to the fact that it has taken migrants in the Mediterranean.

– It is natural to believe that the shipment is connected to this, says Jacobsen.

He says that the company has not received any threats in the past.

– This is an unpleasant situation, and a frightening experience for the employees who were in the office.

Hoyland Offshore has closed the office until the situation is clarified.
