Shinsegae Department Store Driven by’Non Face-to-Face’ Records New Year Gift Sales Record

Shinsegae Department Store’s New Year gift sales hit a record high thanks to the non-face-to-face holiday atmosphere.

On the 7th, Shinsegae Department Store announced that set sales from January 4th to February 5th, when pre-orders began, increased 51.3% year-on-year.

Shinsegae Department Store analyzed that “the allowable amount of agricultural and fishery gift gifts has increased to 200,000 won, and as a non-face-to-face new year trend, premium products are sent instead of visiting their hometown, which is a different holiday atmosphere.”

Pre-order sales, which were held from the 4th to the 24th of last month, also increased by 79.5%. By item, the growth rate of meat (Korean beef) was 51.8%, fisheries 45.4%, agricultural products 53.3%, health and tea 58.2%, and alcoholic beverages 48.4%.

In particular, there was a lot of demand for gift sets of 100,000 to 200,000 won. Representatively, the sales of gift sets of 100,000 won or more, such as’Anseong Machim Hanwoo Happy (130,000 won)’,’Shinsegae Sodam Apple and Pear Set (140,000 won)’, and’Soohyup Special Gulbi Obok (150,000 won)’, have doubled their sales.

Sales of premium gift sets have also increased as more and more customers replace New Year’s greetings with good gifts due to social distancing. ‘Luxury Korean Beef Teabok (550,000 won)’, which Shinsegae strictly manages from production to production, increased sales by 39% from last year. The representative holiday gift set, Yeonggwang Gulbi,’Soohyup Glory Gulbi Happiness (300,000 won),’ sales increased 78%. Fresh ginseng raw product sets also saw a 43% increase in sales compared to last year.

Shinsegae Department Store’s food manager Choi Won-joon said, “The allowable value of agricultural and fishery gifts has increased, and there are many customers who are looking for a premium set as a gift,” he said.
