Sheriff Invites Americans To See Historic Launch As NASA Asks To See It At Home

The Crew Dragon capsule is to be launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 with two astronauts on board is scheduled for May 27.

Brevard County (Florida, USA) Sheriff Wayne Ivey has encouraged Americans to witness the historic manned launch of SpaceX and NASA despite the outbreak of the new coronavirus plaguing the country. “Come here as you have during all the other beautiful releases we’ve had. And enjoy it,” he declared, inviting entire families to witness the event firsthand.

“We are not going to prevent the great Americans who want to come see him from coming here”, Ivey said this Friday during a press conference, disagreeing with the position of NASA, which suggested watching the launch on television or ‘online’. “If NASA tells people not to come here to see the launch, it’s up to them. I tell people what I believe as an American,” he concluded.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine reiterated the agency’s recommendations Friday during a press conference and stated that now NASA’s top priority is “keeping everyone safe”. “We are asking people to see it from home,” he said.

“We don’t want an outbreak. We need a spectacular moment that the entire US can see and that the whole world can see to inspire, not just those of us who have been waiting for it for years, but to inspire generations to come. We need do it in a way that is responsible, “Bridenstine stated.
