When Marc Bergevin sent PK Subban to Nashville in return for Shea Weber, the vast majority of Montreal fans were mixed. Subban was one of the faces of the franchise and was entering the prime of his career as Weber, while still an elite defenseman, seemed like a heavy contract for a declining player.
Four years later, the vast majority of supporters agree instead that the Canadian won the monster transaction between the two defenders.
As Subban now evolves for the Devils and seems really on the decline, Weber is still very solid and is currently the captain of the Habs.
Moreover, speaking of captaincy, a nice anecdote from Gord Miller gives a good example of the influence Weber has in the Habs locker room.

Quick little translation: Players should always carry their equipment after every game. Prior to Weber’s arrival, players left their bags and a manager was in charge of carrying all the bags. When Weber arrived he announced that he would bring his bag himself and that it was not up to the manager to handle this for the whole team. All players on the team now do.
Weber is a man of high class, it goes without saying. He’s been part of the team’s culture shift in recent years, and it’s clear the staff are happy with their captain’s accomplishments, both on and off the ice.
He leads by example, and that’s good news for young people. If the next team captain is in the organization right now, he can learn from one of the great captains of his generation. And if not, even if they’re not the next to wear the C, youngsters like Nick Suzuki and Jesperi Kotkaniemi learn to be classy, which is never bad.
