Actress Petra Špalková is one of the two main characters in the new series Shadows in the Mist, in which she plays criminologist Magda Mala. Petra Špalková fits her role perfectly, but without director Radim Špaček, she would not have accepted the offer. Thanks to him, she finally went to the project. She was more interested in the style of work with which Špaček directs films and series than in the story itself.
The series Shadows in the Mist, filmed in Ostrava and its surroundings, features criminologist Magda Malá and her new partner Martin Černý, who together investigate cases from unusual places. At the same time, strong storylines follow the personal lives of investigators. Petra Špalková and Jiří Vyorálek took on the main roles. They form an amazing duo that entertains the audience. However, if the series were directed by someone other than Radim Špaček, the central couple could have looked quite different.
Petra Špalková also appears in the series with her real daughter Andělka.
Great opportunity
Petra Špalková was undoubtedly very interested in the story of the series, but even so, she might have been hesitant about the offer if the director Radim Špaček had not led the Shadows in the Mist. It was thanks to him that the actress immediately accepted the role. “In fact, I was most interested in working with Radim Špaček, with whom I filmed about fifteen years ago, and I hoped that it could be a good and inspiring job,” said Magda Malá, a spokeswoman for tvguru.cz.
And as the actress added, the role in the detective series wasn’t what she wanted. But when she found out it wasn’t a normal crime story, Shadows in the Mist became even more interested in her. “I’ve only played episodes in crime so far. I have a feeling that this genre has somehow “shot out” in our basin, that it is being recycled. Rather than the detective genre, I was interested in playing such a big tug-of-war role in a closed form, ”Petra Špalková explained what interested her in the project.
She allegedly enjoyed working with her daughter, even though there were more hectic moments.
Hard work with her daughter
Petra Špalková also met her daughter Andělka during the filming. And not because Andělka would go to visit her mother on the square, but right in front of the camera. The angel plays the daughter of Magda Malé in the series. However, cooperation between mother and daughter was difficult at times. “Working with my own daughter was challenging and beautiful together. Although the Ostrava production and everyone on the staff did their best to handle it as elegantly and nervously as possible, there were still a lot of moments that were demanding and exhausting, ”said Petra Špalková about the filming. “But the moments when everything worked and went smoothly were beautiful and we managed to enjoy them to the fullest,” she added.
