The label HK Video returns with the Blu-Ray and DVD release of Shadow, the new film by Zhang Yimou.
After having succumbed in turn to Hollywood sirens to shoot The great wall with Matt Damon, director Zhang Yimou quickly returned to his country to regain his freedom. Three years later, he comes back to us with Shadow, a spectacular new martial arts film which is curiously deprived of theatrical releases to arrive directly on Blu-Ray and DVD at Metropolitan Video on Monday August 10, 2020. For the occasion, the publisher resuscitates the label HK Video to offer us a very nice limited edition digibook with a 16-page booklet but no video bonus.
Shadow returns to the epic of the Three Kingdoms. In an empire ruled by a savage and dangerous young king whose court is a hive of betrayal and political manipulation. The monarch’s courageous military commander develops a secret weapon to aid in his own protection: a “shadow,” a doppelganger who can deceive his enemies and the king himself as he prepares for the final assault on a rival kingdom.
If for French spectators, Shadow is the director’s new film Zhang Yimou, the prolific filmmaker known for his films Wives And Concubines and The Secret Of The Flying Daggers has already shot three other films, two of which are still in post production. Far from the flashy colors of The great wall, the director wanted to shoot Shadows in shades of black and white inspired by Chinese ink paintings. Filming began in March 2017. Since 2018, the feature has toured many festivals including the 75th edition of the Venice Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival and the BFI London Festival. Nominated for the 55th edition of Golden Horse Awards, he received the award for best director.
In Shadow, the actor Chao Deng seen in Detective Dee 3 and The Mermaid plays the dual role of Commandant Ziyu and his double Jingzhou. The actress Li Sun seen in The Master of Arms will play his wife. The king is played by Ryan Zheng already present in The great wall. His sister the princess Quingping is embodied by Guan Xiatong seen in Wu Ji, The Legend Of The Wind Riders. Already in the movie The Three Kingdoms, the actor Jun Chu will play here on General Yang |.
