“Sevilla vs Roma: Europa League 2022/23 Final Preview and Predictions”

Sevilla e Roma make the final of the Europa League 2022/23 this Wednesday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), at the Puskás Arena, in Budapest, Hungary. Biggest winner of the competition, the Spanish team is looking for the seventh title. The Spanish team, champion only once in the tournament, is betting on the star of coach José Mourinho, winner of all five finals of major European tournaments that he has played in his career.

This is the seventh time that Sevilla has participated in the Europa League final. In all of them, he ended up with the trophy in his hands. Confidence for a new achievement is high, mainly due to the work of coach José Luis Mendilibar. In just over two months, he pulled the team from escaping relegation in La Liga and could lead the club to another title in Europe’s second-tier tournament.

– When we say that nobody likes this competition like we do, it’s not because someone at the club said so, but because we think that way. We need to play perfectly, win the cup and bring it home – said Rakitic, Sevilla midfielder.

Sevilla have been without a win for three games – all of them were in the Spanish Championship, including falling victim to Real Madrid, and date back to the triumph over Juventus in the second leg of the Europa League semifinal.

100% success in a great European final also has José Mourinho, twice Champions League champion (with Porto, in 2004, and Inter Milan, in 2010), two times in the Europa League (with Porto, in 2003 , and Manchester United, in 2017) and one from the Conference League (with Roma itself, in 2022). Taking into account all European competitions, the Portuguese can equal the same six trophies raised by Alex Ferguson and Giovanni Trapattoni – the record holder is Carlo Ancelotti, with eight.

– For Sevilla fans, traveling to a European final is like going to a game in Spain. For us, however, it is something historic. So we want to make history. I have a lot of experience, but the experience of the players counts a lot too and the Sevilla players have a lot. But our team has been playing together for two years – pointed out Mourinho.

Against Roma the recent retrospect weighs. The team has only one victory in the last nine games – precisely the triumph over Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of the Europa League semifinal.

Both Sevilla and Roma can only qualify for the next Champions League if they win the title. Both teams will play the last round of their respective national championships next weekend and have no way of getting a place in the elite European competition through the leagues.
