Severe weather in India kills about two hundred people | Abroad

Heavy monsoon rains have caused flooding, mudslides and landslides. Houses, bridges and roads have been damaged or destroyed. Electricity went out in several places.

More than 375,000 people have been evacuated from their homes in the hard-hit state of Maharashtra. More than fifty bodies have been recovered in the village of Taliye during searches. Further south in the town of Chiplun it rained continuously for 24 hours.

The monsoon rains in July were the worst for Maharashtra in about 40 years. India regularly experiences floods and landslides during the monsoon season, which lasts from June to October. Climate experts fear that extreme weather events will become more frequent due to climate change.
