Severe weather in Egypt takes 21 lives

Most people died in the countryside and slums. Authorities say there are at least six children among those killed; some ended up under the rubble, others were electrocuted.

The country’s failure-prone infrastructure has been severely affected by severe weather. Yesterday, thirteen people were injured in a train collision. All train traffic has now stopped. There are also many power cuts and the water supply in Cairo was cut off for a while. The sewage system is broken in many places.

To mitigate the effects of severe weather in the coming days, the government has shut down schools and government offices in many parts of the country.
