Several corona cases at schools and daycare centers in Unterallgäu – news from Memmingen

A total of ten facilities are affected in the Unterallgäu district, two of which had to be closed. In Memmingen the situation is more relaxed at the moment.

For two and a half weeks, the primary schools in the region have reopened after a long Corona break. With alternating lessons, they are currently working towards a piece of normal school life. But now there are some corona cases at facilities in the Unterallgäu the authorities. As the district office reports on request, five schools and five day-care centers are currently affected. In total, there are over 20 confirmed cases, including both students and teachers and educators.

According to the district office in the western district, the primary schools in Ottobeuren (one case), Heimertingen (three cases) and linking (two cases). There are also daycare centers in Legau (five cases), Holzgünz (two cases), Lautrach (three cases), Ottobeuren (one case) and Kettershausen (two cases). The authority could not say how many people are currently in quarantine. However, the primary school in Heimertingen and the day care center “Noah’s Ark” in Legau had to be closed.

No lessons since Monday in Heimertingen

There have been no classes at the primary school in Heimertingen since Monday. There three members of the care staff had tested positive. Since they were largely symptom-free, it is not clear how many children could be affected, explains school authority director Bertram Hörtensteiner. Accordingly, the follow-up was no longer clearly possible. As a precaution, the health department urgently advised that the school be closed. Now everyone would be tested.

The other affected primary schools, however, remain open. If quarantine has been ordered, according to the district office, this applies for 14 days to all students who had lessons with the student who tested positive or the teacher. All people who live in the same household with a child who has tested positive must also be in quarantine, explains District Office spokeswoman Sylvia Rustler. For the families of the other children, however, there is no quarantine requirement.

Series tests in Legau

Legau was hit particularly hard. There have been five cases at the “Noah’s Ark” daycare center. Two children and three caregivers fell ill there. The facility therefore had to be closed. According to Mayor Franz Abele, a series test will take place on Thursday on a voluntary basis in order to rule out further cases. The parents were also written to about this. The starting point was two infections at the local elementary school, which were revealed during a test for teachers and students, which was also voluntary. The respective classmates are in quarantine there. For this reason, other local institutions such as the daycare center were also contacted. In the course of this, five other people had tested positive. “Since we had to send a total of eight supervisors into quarantine, we could no longer keep the daycare running.” Whether and in what form emergency care could be offered still has to be clarified, said the town hall chief.

Ottobeurer school principal: The hygiene plan works

Ten students are currently also in quarantine at the Ottobeurer primary school because, according to Rector Franz Grabenbauer, a classmate was infected in private. At the school itself, however, no student has been infected since the outbreak of the corona virus last spring. In the past few days, 166 children and 18 teachers have been voluntarily tested. “The results were all negative.” This is proof that the hygiene plan works, explains Grabenbauer. The district office also emphasizes that the hygiene plans are taking effect. “The corona cases in schools and daycare centers are individual cases. There is no major infection in a facility, ”explains press spokeswoman Sylvia Rustler. Event-related series tests are currently being carried out via the health department, for example in the case of a corona case. According to Rustler, the voluntary series tests currently taking place for pupils, teachers and kindergarten staff are organized by the institutions themselves.

There are currently no corona cases at the Memmingen schools. The city’s press office announced that there was only one case that tested positive in the after-school care center at the Edith Stein School. Therefore one after-school care group is closed until March 12th.
