Settlement damage – the soil in summer continues to move

Uplifting and subsidence processes were found to be the cause of the ground movements in the northeastern settlement. This is what it says in the final report commissioned by the community. Damage caused by this is neither covered by the disaster fund nor covered by the insurance.

Landslides, however, do. A partial report even states that landslides cannot be completely ruled out. Both the injured party and the SP mayor Karl Zwierschitz tried to point out this fact on the ORF program “Bürgeranwalt”. Further reports are prepared – among other things for renovation concepts. But the Lower Austrian insurance company now wants to be absolutely sure what the damage is due to, they said in the broadcast. If this opinion comes to the same conclusion as that of the community, then the injured parties can only sue.

A lawsuit would take a lot of time – time that injured parties like Martin Klinger don’t have. “It can’t go on like this forever. We have been waiting for two years now, ”he says in an interview with NÖN. Centimeter-thick cracks run through his house, some windows can no longer be opened and the floor slab rotates out from under the house. There are permanent shifts. “The house will soon be uninhabitable,” he emphasizes. He cannot yet quantify how great the damage is. The next step is to develop a plan for the renovation.

Zwierschitz was furious in the ORF broadcast about the fact that the federal government and the state of Lower Austria were mutually blaming each other. The country announced that it cannot help due to federal guidelines. Johannes Pasquali, spokesman for the finance ministry, in turn let it be known that the states can also pay compensation independently. However, this discussion does not help the injured party, said Zwierschitz.
