SANTA FE, NM – New Mexico is launching a statewide observance of National Recovery Month throughout September 2025, with Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issuing a formal proclamation encouraging residents to participate in activities promoting prevention, mental health wellness, and recovery support. The initiative, spearheaded by the New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) and the New Mexico Peer Coalition, underscores the state’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaborative recovery pathways.
This year’s theme, “Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community,” emphasizes a broad approach to recovery, involving partnerships with tribal communities, local governments, nonprofits, and individuals with lived experience.
A diverse calendar of events is planned across the state, including storytelling circles, trauma-informed care workshops, harm reduction training, culturally responsive recovery pathway education, and recognition ceremonies. Over 30 communities are hosting Recovery Celebrations aimed at reducing stigma and connecting individuals with resources and peer support.
“Recovery is a journey of resilience, and no one walks it alone,” stated nick Boukas, director of the Behavioral Health Services Division at the HCA. “Every step forward is made possible when individuals and communities come together.”
