Sense of smell lost? That could be a sign of Corona

As knowledge of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) grows, so does the list of possible symptoms. While the main and most common symptoms are still fever, dry cough and shortness of breath, a sudden loss of smell and taste suggests another symptom. This is what ENT specialists in Great Britain now want to find out.

They even went so far as to say that people who suddenly lose their sense of smell or taste should go into voluntary self-quarantine for seven days. “The patients could be the previously undiscovered vectors of the rapidly spreading corona virus,” wrote the doctors in their statement.

The WHO has meanwhile also shared the latest findings and indicated that it should take a closer look at the topic. Especially in cases that are otherwise fairly mild and asymptomatic, these senses would often say goodbye. Because the people affected would otherwise have hardly any signs of the corona virus, they could spread COVID-19 particularly quickly.

The positive news?

Whoever is affected by the sudden loss of smell or taste will soon smell and taste again – similar to bad colds. So please keep your distance, stay at home as much as possible, wash your hands and stay patient – it doesn’t help anyway!
