Semiconductor shortage: Foxconn warns its shipments will be cut by 10%

Change of tone at Foxconn. A month later having declared that the global semiconductor shortage would have a limited impact on its business, the essential subcontractor of Apple and a large part of the IT industry warns that its shipments will be reduced by 10% (it is not known about what period).

« [L’approvisionnement en composants] in the first couple of months was still ok as our customers are all very big, but we are starting to see changes happening this month ”, the Foxconn chairman said today. According to him, the situation is not close to being resolved, he expects supply difficulties until the second quarter of 2022.

The industry-wide semiconductor shortage is a backlash from the pandemic, which has led to an explosion in demand for computer hardware. To make matters worse, a major Samsung factory that manufactures chips related to OLED displays had to temporarily shut down in Texas due to an exceptional cold snap. Apple has not yet commented on the likely consequences of this shortage on its business.
