Jukes offers robotics
Amazon’s Jux, which specializes in autonomous vehicles, recently unveiled the group’s first robotics. This vehicle is an electric vehicle that should do without a driver and is specially designed for passenger transport.
Accordingly, the vehicle manages without a driver’s seat and steering wheel, so that the passengers can sit opposite each other like a gondola. The shared capacity of Juices is limited to four people.
The Robotoxi is equipped with a total of two motors – one on each axis – which can travel in both directions at a speed of up to 120 km / h. Each of the motors is powered by a battery located under the passenger seats. According to Juks, this should provide enough power for 16 hours of driving on one charge.
Use in selected cities from 2021
The six-year-old starter was acquired by Amazon in June 2020. Since then, the company has been very active in developing commercially available robot axes. In addition to the goal of being able to deliver parcels to Amazon quickly and autonomously, the focus of the improvements was also on driverless passenger transfers.
In connection with the now released Autonomous Taxi, Jux is trying to create a ride hello service. As with Uber, users can order robotics through the app and have to navigate to the desired location – without a driver. Robot axes are currently in use in San Francisco and Las Vegas.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Juke CEO Aicha Evans commented on the initial plans: “It’s really about rediscovering traffic. [

A firm date for the start of the robotoxic service has not yet been announced, but should probably be the last in 2021, Juke confirmed to Bloomberg.
The future of locomotion?
According to Evans, Jux plans to offer driving greetings in other countries, but he hasn’t announced a specific date for it. The company has so far kept the travel costs that users have to pay for transportation low. However, Juks emphasizes that the cost is very competitive compared to Uber.
Jux is not the first type of robotoxia, but it does have some features and safety measures.
Not only can the vehicle drive smoothly in both directions without turning, but it also uses both axes so that the taxi can move easily even in limited places. Radar sensors and cameras offer a 270 degree view of all four corners of the robotoxie, which should cover the usual blind spots. The safety of the residents is ensured by an airbag system on each of the four seats.
In a statement to CNBC, the launch commented on the condition of the vehicle: “Although the vehicle is not yet ready for commercial use, it marks a milestone in our vision of an autonomous robot taxi fleet and driver greeting service.”
The company’s manufacturing facility in Fremond, California can already manufacture 10,000 to 15,000 vehicles per year.
