Self-Healing Concrete, Indonesia’s Future Infrastructure Development Solution

Until now, Indonesia continues to develop infrastructure, starting from toll roads, bridges, airports, buildings, and many more. The goal is to further advance the country and improve people’s welfare. In infrastructure development in Indonesia, concrete is one of the most frequently used construction materials because it is easy to shape, the raw materials are easy to obtain, and it is resistant to high temperatures and bad weather, as stated by the Head of the Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of PUPR, Danis H. Sumadilaga when opened the Concrete Show South East Asia 2017 at JIExpo Kemayoran (Ramadhiani, 2017). However, keep in mind also that there are several problems that can occur in concrete, one of which is cracking or cracking cracks which is due to shrinkage in concrete, concrete mixtures that are not in accordance with the needs of the building structure, corrosion of reinforcement in concrete, improper post-casting care, improper concrete manufacture, earthquakes, and many more. When the concrete is cracked, its strength will decrease, so repairs must be carried out immediately because if left alone, the size of the crack will enlarge so that the concrete weakens and results in the collapse of infrastructure that endangers safety. So, what is the right solution to overcome this problem? Self-Healing Concrete is the latest concrete innovation that is able to provide answers to the problems of infrastructure development in Indonesia because it can save repair costs, increase concrete strength, and is environmentally friendly.
