Actress Kathryn Kates has died at the age of 73 after a “tough battle with lung cancer”.
According to a representative for Kates, known for her roles in Orange is the new black, Seinfeld Y Law & Order: SVU, the character actress passed away on Saturday.
“Kathryn has been our client for many years, and we have grown much closer to her in this past year since she learned her cancer had returned,” Headline Talent said in a statement first obtained by Term.

“She was always incredibly brave and wise and approached each role with the utmost passion. We will miss her very much.”
In a post on their Instagram page, the agency wrote, “Our mighty [Kathryn Kates] has died. She will always be remembered and adored in our hearts as the powerful force of nature that she was. He loved this trade and had enough patience to fill 10 boats. A true icon. We will miss you.”
His manager, Bob McGowan, wrote in an email to Persons, “my heart is broken, she was the best. The whole time she was sick, she never complained.”

On Sunday, the day after her death, a video was posted to Kates’ Instagram account. It showed her performing a sonnet.
The video was captioned: “Don’t stand at my grave and cry, I’m not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the sparkles of diamonds in the snow. I am the sunlight in the ripe grain. I am I am the gentle autumn rain.”
“When you wake up in the morning silence, I am the uplifting swift race, of silent birds in circular flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Don’t stand at my grave and cry; I’m not there. I did not do it. die,” the caption continued.
“Keep me alive in your beautiful hearts with unforgettable memories. Teach others what you have learned from me and I will live forever. 🤗💐🕊”
The New Yorker appeared as a counter clerk in two episodes of Seinfeld: ‘The dinner’ and ‘The rye’.
In addition to having guest roles on lizzie mcguire, judging amy Y Matlock Y Law & Order: Special Victims UnitKates played the mother of Jason Biggs’ character on the popular television series Orange is the new black.
Kates leaves behind her sister Mallory and her brother Joshua.
