Sedan car incident at the Grand Mosque, this is the explanation of the Mecca Authority

KOMPAS.com – An incident happened on The Grand Mosque, Mecca, Saudi Arabia, Friday (30/10/2020) evening local time.

The incident involved a car the sedan that was going very fast and finally crashed into Gate 89 of the Grand Mosque.

The driver was suspected of being drunk and unable to control the speed of his vehicle so that he broke through the barrier and hit the door of the Grand Mosque.

The video of the incident went viral on Twitter social media.

Quoted from Haramain Sharifain, Saturday (31/10/2020) the incident took place Friday night after 22.30.

Haramain Sharifain said, from the photo showing the outside courtyard of the Al Haram Mosque, it was known that the incident involved a car passing through the courtyard of the Al Haram Mosque and entering the King Fahad expansion.

Then a video was obtained showing that the car crashed uncontrollably across the barrier in the yard and finally stopped after hitting Gate 89 of the Al Haram Mosque.

How did it happen?

According to various sources, the car is said to have entered the courtyard via Jalan 15 which is the main road that directly enters the King Fahad Expansion courtyard of the Al Haram Mosque.

“This road is usually crowded and is only used to drop off and invite the congregation before and after prayers,” wrote Haramain Sharifain.

At the time of the incident, the barrier at the entrance to the yard was minimal and could easily be breached by uncontrolled vehicles as seen from the video and photos obtained.

Responding to the incident, the Emirates of Mecca released an official statement on Saturday morning.

“The driver has been arrested. He is a national and in abnormal condition, and he is being referred to the Prosecutor General,” said a statement by the Mecca authorities.
