Security. New Year’s Eve: police and gendarmerie on the bridge

With the current curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., it’s a special New Year’s Eve looming. Suddenly, a question arises: what device will the police put in place to ensure compliance with the instructions?

“There will be a strong presence of our troops on the evening of the 31st at various structural points of the constituency, including on the Fameck ZSP,” assures Lieutenant-Colonel Guillaume Chanudet, who heads the Thionville company. In line of sight, respect for the curfew, of course, but also “a search for addictive behaviors”, as is usually done during the night and in the early morning. “However, we have seen in recent days during control operations that the curfew was rather well respected by the population. We can bet that this will be the case on the 31st. “

On the national police side, there too, the night system will be reinforced “in addition to the prevention of urban violence. We will be particularly attentive around midnight and any calls made in the context of family disputes, all the more so since there are no large gatherings planned, ”explains Guillaume Lacassin, deputy central commissioner of Thionville. “At the start of the morning, as usual, we will focus on risky driving and blood alcohol levels. ”

And the firecrackers?

Regarding firecrackers, the prefecture is clear: until Sunday January 3, 2021 at midnight, the wearing, transport or use of fireworks and pyrotechnic items is prohibited for individuals in Moselle on public roads or in direction of public space. However, the ban does not apply to the categories of small fireworks (C1, F1, and C2, F2).
