Security guard disguised as surgeon, desperate to operate patient until death

Suara.com – An ex security in Pakistan disguised as surgeon and desperate to operate on a patient who is 80 years old. According to Wion News on Saturday (12/06), the patient was reported dead after operation.

Shameema Begum performs surgery at Pakistan General Hospital. His family had already paid some money for the operation and two home visits to bandage his wound.

But two weeks after the operation, Begum died and was bleeding and the pain was getting worse.

Before he died, his family returned him to the hospital where he was operated on for further treatment but they were shocked that the doctor who operated on Begum was not on the list.

Doctor Muhammad Waheed Butt turned out to be a former security guard who disguised himself as a surgeon. Staff said Butt was fired two years ago for trying to extort money from patients.

Lahore Mayo Hospital administration officer said it was not clear what type of surgery the impostor performed in the operating room, where qualified technicians were also present.

“We can’t keep up with what every doctor does and what everyone does all the time. This is a big hospital,” he explained.

Begum’s body is now being kept for an autopsy to determine if her death was the result of complications from the failed surgery.

“The security guard has been charged and is in police custody,” Lahore police spokesman Ali Safdar told AFP.

“Butt has disguised himself as a doctor and made home visits to other patients in the past as well.”

So far, Pakistan’s public hospitals, where each patient is required to pay a certain amount for treatment, have often been reported to be inefficient and chaotic.
