PEKANBARU, KOMPAS.com – A police officer with the initials IZ (55) was arrested while carrying 16 kilograms of methamphetamine-type narcotics.

A member of the rank of Police Commissioner (Kompol) who served at the Riau Police Directorate General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum), was shot when he was arrested on Jalan Soekarno Hatta, Kota Pekanbaru, Riau, Friday (23/10/2020).

The perpetrator was shot because he fled in a car with a fellow meth courier with the initials HW (52).

At that time, the police strafed the perpetrator’s car with a firearm. As a result, the person was shot in the arm and back.

This police officer is currently undergoing treatment at the Bhayangkara Hospital of the Riau Police, while the HW perpetrator suffered a torn head injury due to a collision in a car while escaping.

Director of the Riau Police’s Narcotics Detective, Kombes Pol Victor Siagian, confirmed that the police officer was shot.

“Yes, it is true like that. Currently we are still developing, as much as 16 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine has been secured. The perpetrators (IZ) are currently being treated at the Riau Police Bhayangkara Hospital,” Victor told reporters, Saturday (24/10) / 2020).

Already stalked, fled when he was about to be caught

Meanwhile, Riau Police Chief Inspector General Pol Agung Setya Imam Effendi in a press conference this afternoon said that a police officer and a colleague were arrested while carrying 16 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.

The methamphetamine was taken by the two suspects on Jalan Parit Indah, Pekanbaru City.

The police who knew the suspect’s movement immediately tried to make an arrest. However, the two suspects fled by car.

“The perpetrators knew that officers were stalking, so the perpetrators fled,” Agung told reporters on Saturday afternoon.

Threatened to death

During the chase, he continued, the suspect did not want to stop even though he had been given a warning. However, the police officers and their colleagues still tried to escape.

So, the officers took decisive action by firing several times into the car from the right side to stop it.

“The suspect’s car kept trying to escape until it crashed into several other vehicles,” said Agung.

Agung said the two suspects were charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 112 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics. Suspects face the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 20 years.

As reported, the police video chasing a car carrying narcotics went viral on social media.

This chasing incident took place on Jalan Soekarno Hatta, Pekanbaru City, Riau, Friday (23/10/2020) at around 19.00 WIB.

An officer voice asked the driver to stop the perpetrator’s car. There were even several gunshots. The officers also seemed to hit the perpetrator’s car several times. However, the perpetrators never stopped.
