AT A Russian scientist has been detained in Novosibirsk in recent days on suspicion of treason, Reuters reported, citing TASS, BTA reported.
This is Anatoly Maslov, Chief Research Fellow at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics
of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a source close to the investigation told TASS. Maslov was detained and transferred to a prison in the Russian capital as part of an investigation by the Federal Security Service.
A few days ago, Dmitry Kolker, head of the Novosibirsk State University laboratory, was arrested in a case of treason in Novosibirsk.
Maslov is suspected of providing data that is a state secret, the source told TASS, specifying that it was related to hypersonics. According to several Russian media, Maslov was detained on June 28. Colker, who is said to have cooperated with Chinese security services, was also detained the same week.
In recent years, several Russian scientists have been arrested and charged with treason,
allegedly for passing confidential material to foreigners. According to critics of the Kremlin, the arrests are often due to unfounded and paranoid suspicion, noted Reuters.
