Second-hand car also increasingly expensive: average used car costs more than €20,000 | Money

The average price for a used car in September was €20,467. In August this was still €20,234, according to data from the online car marketplace Autoscout24.

In 2020, the average price for a used car was €17,714. That is currently more than 15% higher. The car marketplace also sees the same development in Germany, Belgium, France, Austria and Italy.

New cars

One explanation for this is that the market for new cars is in a recession due to the chip shortage in the sector. In September, 5% fewer new cars were sold than in the same month last year.

In the period up to and including September of this year, on the other hand, 4% more used cars were sold than in the same period of 2020.
