Season 3 and 4 premiere is postponed

The scripts for the next two seasons of Atlanta have already been written, but the filming cannot take place in time, so that a premiere in January 2021 cannot be made.

The coronavirus pandemic and the associated quarantine ensure that screenwriters can still do their work, but that targeted premiere dates have to be postponed again. This is also the case with Atlanta from FX. The third and fourth seasons of the series by and with Donald Glover have been written, but the filming cannot take place as planned, like TVLine reports. A premiere was planned for January 2021.

John Landgraf hosted an impromptu FX Press Day virtually where he talked about this problem: “One of the unexpected benefits of COVID-19 is that the writers had plenty of time to write. Donald Glover and his intrepid team wrote everything for seasons 3 and 4. However, the availability (of actors) has changed due to the pandemic.“Landgraf has to speak to the producers first to find out when filming can possibly continue.

The last new episode of Atlanta ran on US screens in May 2018. Earn (Glover) went on a European tour with Clark County with his client and cousin Al (Brian Tyree Henry). The plan is that the third season should be shot in Europe, while season four should then be shot again in Atlanta. “It is our intention (both seasons) to shoot at the same time, i.e. one after the other“, Said Landgraf about the plans. The third season should have ten episodes and the fourth season, which was originally supposed to start in autumn 2021, then eight. The autumn date is currently on the brink. For a future beyond that, according to an earlier statement by Landgraf, the series will continue as long as Donald Glover is interested in it.

In Germany, Atlanta is part of the series offering from the FOX Channel.
