“Continuing to search at sea will have no effect. That is why it was jointly decided to stop searching at sea. In fact, we are now looking for a mortal remains,” says the KNRM spokesman for Ameland. “The sea is too big, the part of which we suspect where the girl can lie has been searched several times.”
On holiday
The German girl was on holiday with her sister and parents on Ameland. The two girls stood in the surf watching the sunset last night and got into trouble due to a treacherous current.

Their father came to their rescue. The sister and father managed to reach the beach, but the 14-year-old girl has since gone missing. A large search was started immediately.
“Must be real”
The chance that she is still alive is small, says mayor Leo Pieter Stoel. “The water is 10 degrees and it’s cold at night. We have to be real.”
Today, five KNRM lifeboats and a coastguard helicopter searched the sea all day long for a trace of the girl, but to no avail. The police combed the beach and dunes, but that did nothing.

Lifeboats will no longer go out to sea tomorrow, but the local fishing fleet wants to look further.
