Seal Center Pieterburen closes due to corona contamination

It is not clear how long the Seal Center will remain closed to visitors. All decisions are taken in ‘close consultation’ with the GGD, says a spokesperson for the reception center.

Swiss volunteer

It is a Swiss volunteer who is found to be infected with the corona virus. All sixteen volunteers from the Seal Center will be quarantined. They all live on site in Pieterburen.

As a result, the care for the seals is on the shoulders of the twelve remaining employees of the center. “That will be tight,” the spokesman explains. “But we expect it to work out.”

Consultation with GGD

He cannot say how long the center will remain closed. “Normally the isolation will take two weeks. But we are discussing with the GGD today how to proceed.”

The Seal Center worked with online reservations for visitors and was sold out for the coming days. People who have bought a ticket will get their money back.
