Ministers Welcome £115 Million Investment in Seagate Technology‘s derry/Londonderry Facility

Derry/Londonderry, northern Ireland – The First Minister and deputy First Minister have jointly welcomed a ample £115 million investment by seagate Technology Holdings into its manufacturing plant in Derry/Londonderry. The investment, spread over five years, is earmarked for the development of cutting-edge hard drive technology.
This important financial commitment is expected to solidify Seagate’s North West facility’s position as a global leader in research and development (R&D) engineering, specifically in the field of nanophotonics. Crucially, the investment will also lead to the creation of new employment opportunities within the region.
During a visit to the Seagate site to formally announce the investment, First Minister Michelle O’Neill emphasized the company’s long-standing contribution to the local economy. “As establishing operations in Derry in 1993, Seagate has evolved into a world-class manufacturing facility and remains one of the largest employers in the area,” she stated. ”The company consistently provides high-quality jobs and valuable career pathways for local residents, injecting millions of pounds into our economy annually.”
Deputy First Minister Emma Little-pengelly added, “The Executive is firmly dedicated to fostering regional economic balance. This latest investment by Seagate represents a significant boost for the North West, promising new jobs and substantial benefits for both local peopel and communities.”
