Vietnam will be the host country of the 31is Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31), which will take place from November 21 to December 2, 2021 in Hanoi and ten cities and provinces in the North. More than 17 years have passed since it hosted the SEA Games 22 for the first time. The memories of those heroic and awe-inspiring days are still etched in the memory of many Vietnamese. The interesting story of 2003 will probably be proudly reproduced at the next SEA Games 31.

Impartiality and fairness

In the past, the SEA Games were often synonymous with corruption and “cheating”, at least a lack of fair play, in order to allow delegations to glean the maximum number of medals. Today, with the socio-economic development of the Southeast Asian region, these competitions have greatly improved and become truly fair.

Therefore, according to Hoàng Quôc Vinh, director of the High Level Sports Department 1, under the General Department of Physical Education and Sports, the SEA Games are today a very competitive arena, especially for sports disciplines. also included in the competition program of the Olympic or Asian Games. In recent years, these games have seen the participation of Olympic and world champions such as Joseph Schooling known as the Singaporean “dolphin” (swimming), the Malaysian Lee Chong Wei (badminton) or the Vietnamese Hoàng Xuân Vinh (sport shooting).

During these last two editions of the SEA Games, in 2017 and 2019 respectively, the Vietnamese delegation ranked in 3e and 2e ranking position by nation. She even dominated a few disciplines like athletics and football. “It’s a position that other countries envy us”, a estimé Hoang Quoc Vinh.

“Besides the benefit of playing under the encouragement of the local public, Vietnamese sportsmen also face great pressure to meet the expectations and love of the supporters. In particular, the biggest challenge today is that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to plague the world in a complicated way, affecting not only Vietnam’s preparations for these games but also sports training “, he stressed.

According to Trân Duc Phân, deputy director of the General Department of Physical Education and Sports, Vietnam is determined to prepare for and successfully organize the SEA Games 31, hoping that all ASEAN member countries will work together towards of lively and engaging games.

During a working session held last January in Hanoi of the said department concerning the deployment of the training calendar and the competitions of the national selections in 2021, the desire to give priority to the SEA Games 31 was confirmed once again. Previously, during many other meetings, the sporting bodies also agreed that priority should be given to the SEA Games 31, with the aim in particular of being in the Top 3 of the final ranking by nations.

Remain proactive in all situations

In view of the SEA Games 31, Hoàng Quôc Vinh proposed some initiatives, for example the development of specific training programs by bringing together different disciplines in groups according to the statutes of the SEA Games. Concretely, group 1 includes the two compulsory disciplines which are athletics and swimming. Group 2 integrates those appearing in the competition program of the Olympic and Asian Games such as sport shooting, weightlifter, fencing, cycling, taekwondo, karate, wrestling and wushu. Group 3 brings together some traditional martial arts from Southeast Asian countries such as Jujitsu and Vovinam.

This is followed by education and training to improve performance in competitions. “By clearly identifying the disciplines for which Vietnam can win medals, we will select the best athletes and coaches and hire highly qualified foreign experts to ensure high quality training and evaluate the training of the teams in each period.”, insisted Mr. Vinh.

Then, athletes will have to participate in international tournaments. It will help them to accumulate more experiences. If training continues to be affected by the health crisis, national competitions will be an effective solution to help athletes maintain a competitive spirit and improve.

In addition to professional solutions, Hoàng Quôc Vinh also indicated that the country should apply scientific and technological solutions in training in order to improve the performance of athletes. In fact, during the period of social distancing, the technology solution 4.0 has been effective for athletes, allowing the organization of online competitions or the formation of groups between coaches and athletes to exchange training lesson plans or correction. technical movements.

Regarding the psycho-educational solution, “As there is not yet a good psychology expert for athletes, we encourage coaching teams to strengthen education, to remain confident in all situations. Faced with all adversaries, athletes should always try to keep a cool head and a warm heart. In addition, the coach must implement effective recovery solutions after each training session and each competition. He must also improve nutrition before, during and after competitions. . When all these solutions are implemented synchronously, the athletes will surely achieve good results and bring glory to the country. “, he concluded.
