4 hours on copper, 24 hours on cardboard, 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel. These are the timing of the activity of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on various surfaces.
Scientists from Kyoto Prefecture Medical University have published their own research on human skin. For the experiments, the skin of deceased people was used – human skin has the ability to retain its properties for 24 hours after the death of the owner.
The results showed that the new coronavirus survived on the skin for about 9 hours, and with the addition of mucus (as it is usually transmitted by airborne droplets), up to 11 hours.
At the same time, disinfectants with 80% ethanol killed influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2 on the skin within 15 seconds after exposure. This confirms the validity of using sanitizers at the entrances and exits to various institutions and organizations, according to the Science and Life portal.
