Scientists have found a new cause of high mortality from coronavirus | News | News

Scientists from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation and the University of East Anglia have concluded that vitamin D deficiency may increase the risk of death from coronavirus. The results of the study appeared in April on the portal Research Square.

According to experts, they determined the average levels of vitamin D in residents of 20 countries in Europe. After that, the data were compared with statistics on morbidity and mortality from COVID-19 in these states.

It turned out that the lower the average level of vitamin D in the country, the higher the mortality from coronavirus.

“Especially low levels of vitamin A were recorded among residents of Spain, Italy and Switzerland,” the study said.

In favor of their version, scientists also gave an example of the fact that older people most often die from coronavirus. It is in this category of patients that the level of vitamin D in the blood is usually low.

May 2, it was reported that scientists from the Irish Center for Vascular Biology and the Royal College of Surgeons discovered an abnormality that leads to the formation of blood clots in the lungs. This factor may increase the risk of coronavirus death.
