But the research that was just launched today is different. Because experts are trying to re-infect people who have previously recovered from Covid-19 infection. This was done to deepen understanding of the survivors’ immunity after re-exposure to the corona virus.
“The information from this study will allow us to design better vaccines and treatments. Also to understand whether people are protected after having contracted Covid-19, and for how long,” said Helen McShane, University of Oxford vaccinator and lead researcher on the study. from Channel News Asia.

He added, from the study it is also possible to know the body’s immune response to re-infection.
The first phase of the trial will establish the lowest dose of coronavirus needed to start replicating in about 50 percent of participants, while producing few or no symptoms. The second phase, which will start in the summer, will infect volunteers who differ from the standard dose.
In the first phase, up to 64 healthy participants, aged 18-30 years, who had been infected with the coronavirus at least three months ago will be reinfected with the original strain of SARS CoV-2. They will then be quarantined for at least 17 days and monitored. Anyone experiencing symptoms will be given Regeneron monoclonal antibody treatment.
Direct research on humans is nothing new. Similar methods have been used over the past few decades to learn more about diseases such as malaria, flu, typhus and cholera. The goal is also to develop medications and vaccines against it.
