Main theme of the 2021 congress: “Science and scientificity”

– Science et pseudoscience

– Challenges imposed by the evolution of scientific practices (e.g. open data, participatory science, publication of negative results)

– Uncertainty of ignorance production (scientific expertise, fake news, merchants of doubt, etc.)

– Values ​​of science, scientific integrity and evaluation of science

– Culture scientifique (« public understanding of science »)

NOTE: as in each edition, this theme is not binding and submissions on other themes in philosophy of science are welcome.

The Congress will host:

(1) Six guest speakers:

Brigitte Axelrad (University of Grenoble, vice-president of AFIS), Jean-Pierre Clero (Bentham Center, Paris & University of Rouen), Guillaume Lecointre (National Museum of Natural History), Stephan Lewandowsky (University of Bristol), Alan Sokal (New York University & University College London), Marion Vorms (University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).

(2) Symposia (in French or in English)

They consist of a set of 3 or 4 papers on a specified theme. The total duration of a symposium is 1h30 or 2h00 depending on the number of presentations.

(3) Individual, oral communications (30 minutes, discussion included, in French or in English)

Symposia are strongly encouraged, especially those that include both contributions from philosophers and scientists.

Format of contributions:

All proposals should include a short summary (entered directly on the submission platform) and a long summary (attached to the submission in .pdf or .doc format)

The format of contributions must be as follows:

For a symposium :

  • The title of the symposium
  • A short summary (maximum 250 words) describing the general theme
  • An anonymous argument, in a separate file, concerning the symposium as a whole, followed by a brief description of each presentation (4 speakers maximum, 2,500 words maximum)

As the evaluation of the submissions is strictly anonymous, this document must not contain any mention allowing the identification of the participants.

For individual communication :

  • The title of the paper
  • A short abstract (maximum 250 words)
  • A long abstract in a separate file (maximum 1000 words)
