Schools – Saarbrücken:Teachers will be equipped with laptops for the new school year

Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) – All teachers in Saarland will be equipped with laptops or tablets for the next school year. A master plan for the digitization of schools provides for this. A corresponding agreement is to be signed this Friday (11:30 a.m.) by the Ministry of Education and the county council. The planning also includes equipping all students from the third grade with mobile devices by the school year 2022/23. The ministry announced that this should begin as early as the next school year.
According to information from the end of 2020, Saarland will invest around 137 million euros in digital education by 2024; 66.8 million come from the federal government through the digital school pact.
With funds from the federal government and the Saarland, around 23,500 laptops and tablets have been purchased for pupils in need in the past few months. The devices are the basis for ensuring that all students have equal access to online lessons during the pandemic-related school closings. The devices are the basis for setting up the “State-wide Systematic Media Loaning System Saar”.
