Schools – Potsdam – School year starts with presence and with mask and test compulsory education

Potsdam (dpa / bb) – The new school year starts in Brandenburg for around 298,000 schoolchildren with full face-to-face lessons, but due to the corona pandemic with masks and regular tests. Education Minister Britta Ernst (SPD) announced on Thursday in Potsdam that the “Catching up after Corona” program will start at the same time. For this purpose, an additional 200 teachers, 400 students as assistants and numerous social workers are deployed for two school years.

For the school year 2021/2022, 1256 new teachers were hired for an unlimited period. Ernst reported that this was 56 more than what is mathematically required. Among them are 256 newcomers, a share of 21.3 percent. In the previous year, around every third teacher hired for an unlimited period was a lateral entrant. In addition, 790 teachers were hired on a temporary basis. Among them are 537 lateral entrants, whose contracts are usually limited to 15 months. There are also fixed-term contracts for long-term sick people or teachers on parental leave.
