17-goal striker is free transfer
With Victor Pálsson (29) and Serdar Dursun (29), Schalke 04 has two top performers of SV Darmstadt 98 in mind. What the “Bild” brought into play on Wednesday as a loose rumor seems to be taking shape, at least with regard to Dursun, with 17 goals second-best goalscorer in the 2nd Bundesliga. The fact that the striker is a realistic option also seems to be due to the lack of interest from other Bundesliga clubs.

The newly promoted sports director Peter Knäbel, wrote the newspaper on Sunday, had already met with Dursun and discussed the first details of a possible change. This would take place free of charge at the end of the season, since the Hamburg native’s contract with the “Lilien” is running out.

After three years in Darmstadt – Dursun came in 2018 for 350,000 euros from SpVgg Greuther Fürth – the right foot is looking for a new challenge. Contrary to what was previously thought, the options seem limited. According to the report, Dursun has not received an offer from another Bundesliga club. Most recently, Union Berlin, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96 were also discussed as buyers in the TM rumor mill.
Schalke 04: Dursun and Grammozis know each other from Darmstadt 98
Another advantage for the “royal blues” is the shared past between coach Dimitrios Grammozis and the German-Turkish. From February 2019 to the end of the 2019/20 season, the 42-year-old stood on the sidelines in Darmstadt, Dursun increased its market value from 800,000 to 1.5 million euros during this period.
I don’t think any Bundesliga team (apart from maybe promoted players) would promise him more than the backup role. Of course he can fight his way up, but as I judge him, because he’s not the very youngest, he has the desire to play and possibly qualify for league 1 with his new club. Possibly this assessment is strongly influenced by my wish to see him at Schalke, but I still don’t think it’s wrong. …
