Scandal scenes: EC player spit on spectators

The Montenegro players could cheer for a 28-24 victory over Northern Macedonia in the European Handball Championship on Saturday night, but after the match it boiled over for the Montenegrin veteran Marko Lasica (33).

When the players took the victory round in the hall in Debrecen, there were comments from the North Macedonian field in the stands that made Marko Lasica storm away and send off a spit.

Several of the teammates came to calm the situation.

“If he did, I’m sorry,” Montenegro player Vasko Sevaljevic (33) told fans from northern Macedonia, quoted by the newspaper News.

European Handball Federation (EHF) states on Sunday that the player has been punished with a fine of about 50,000 kroner for the incident.

While Lasica passed away immediately after spitting in the stands, a video of the incident shows that Milos Vujovic (28) was hit in the shoulder region by a bottle that was thrown from the stands. Vujovic looked resigned and annoyed afterwards.

– A shame

The Norwegian national team player Sebastian Barthold does not have much left for Lasica’s action.

– You have experienced such things, but it does not belong to either a handball hall or elsewhere. It is a shame, I must say, says Barthold to TV 2.

– That it happens under the corona makes it even worse. We have a responsibility to everyone that we pay attention and show care and take care of each other. Basically, it’s a horrible, horrible thing to do. So one should stay too good at it in general.

Montenegro lost the European Championship opening against Denmark, before they got a boost with the victory over Northern Macedonia, which is without a win in two matches in the European Championship.
