Scandal on air because of Mitrofanova, Yanev’s resignation and attitude to the war

A scandal erupted on Nova TV over the resignation of Defense Minister Stefan Yanev and Bulgaria’s attitude towards the war in Ukraine. Guests of the show “Hello, Bulgaria” were sociologist Andrey Raichev, political scientist Slavi Vassilev, journalist Asen Grigorov and former MP and lawyer Nikolay Hadjigenov.

Quarrels between Raichev and Hadjigenov led to the departure of the sociologist on air. And Vassilev left ahead of schedule after being attacked by others for his position in defense of Stefan Yanev’s behavior.

The scandal between Raichev and Hadjigenov erupted because of the lawyer’s comment to the Russian ambassador Eleonora Mitrofanova. He announced that now is the time for Bulgaria to expel “comrade” Mitrofanova, because she called us a “pad” with a post on Facebook.

What a friend she is, this is not the behavior of a politician, Raichev was angry. And he asked Hadjigenov what the Russian word for “substrate” was. He received an answer that the ex-MP had read only the translation, made automatically by social networks, after which he got up and left on the air.

The president was slapped – his man in government, who has a very high personal rating of about 40%, was removed. And thank God, he kept his nerves and didn’t start something that shouldn’t be done. Because at the moment Bulgaria must show absolute unity, said Andrey Raichev before the request for the resignation of the Minister of Defense Stefan Yanev.

Our relations with Russia are special because that is our history. But at this moment there can be no moment in which Bulgaria puts itself as an exception. And Yanev should not have done that, but kept silent. Because before our eyes is a monstrous aggression, added Raichev.

Cornelia Ninova also has a different opinion, and there is no other way, because there are many pro-Russian sentiments in the BSP, but politically it does not allow deviation and this is the right behavior, Raichev commented.

This resignation solves a political problem. In 80% of the cases, Yanev behaves completely adequately and normally as caretaker prime minister. But as a minister, he was a retaining anchor so that the government could show itself as a team with a strong unified foreign policy, commented Asen Vassilev.

The replacement of Stefan Yanev is a mistake, because at this moment it does not solve any foreign policy issue, but creates internal tension, however, Slavi Vassilev believes. Yanev had a more moderate position, which is in the interest of our society. His status does not change the attitude of the government towards the war, nor of the society, he commented.

This resignation is a blow to all people who think that Bulgaria should be a little more neutral, that it is economically dependent on Russia, Vassilev explained.

This is madness. Reminds the BCP: Let’s get down, comrades, the storm will pass. There is a war, ex-MP Nikolay Hadjigenov countered.

Russian tourists are not important, Putin is an aggressor, war is evil. Congratulations to Prime Minister Petkov, who finally grew up and made the right decision, he added.

A much bigger catastrophe could happen than at the moment, is the opinion of Andrey Raichev. Ukraine is a surprise to the whole world, not just to Russia. They imagined that they would come in and quickly do what they wanted. We remember that it was the same with Serbia – they imagined that they were entering, and they were surrendering. But it didn’t happen. It is not happening in Ukraine now. And Russia is surprised. If the Ukrainians have become a nation, as with the Bosniaks – they have become a nation before our eyes, Putin has no way back, he must win. But not being able to win in one go can become a real tragedy, the sociologist explained.

The reaction of the Europeans was also a surprise – they were not afraid of the emigrants and accepted them. The dangerous situation is that Putin has no way out and can get to the button, Raichev added.

In reality, military victory does not matter much. Putin lost the war the moment he said he was raising nuclear forces. This was a huge red line, in which he remained on one side, the whole world on the other, commented journalist Asen Grigorov.

The war in the 21st century was unthinkable, and we witnessed civilian strikes. A picture that changes the world. And once aggression is possible, the question is how the West will react. When they come in with tanks and you do not react with force, it shows where the world is going and whether it will rule again, said Slavi Vassilev.

Power is evil and should be condemned as such, not powdered with ribbons. There is no excuse to attack civilians, to enter with tanks, Nikolay Hadjigenov commented. Putin works just like a dictator, Hitler was the same, he is following in his footsteps, he added.

It is no coincidence that in Western democracies there is an understanding that a leader should not stay in power for so long because he loses sight of reality, added Slavi Vassilev.
