Scandal after the final whistle

In the 33rd round of PKO Ekstraklasa Jagiellonia played with Lechia Gdańsk. The match ended with a 2: 1 result for the team from Gdansk, and just after the meeting there was a scandalous event. A man watching a meeting from one of the boxes at the city stadium began to insult the former representative of Poland of Ukrainian origin, Taras Romanczuk. It is possible that there were more aggressors. – In the skyboks of one of the companies, some drunk people shouted to Taras that he was not a Pole but a Ukrainian and that he was displaced *** – tells us the incident. According to our information, the football player came to the box and tried to clarify the whole situation, but instead he heard another bunch.

Representatives of the Municipal Stadium say that the perpetrator of the incident is most likely one person. – What has happened today in the VIP lounges should never happen. The police know the subject and the video material has been secured. The company that rents one of the boxes has announced very severe consequences and will issue an appropriate message – it was written on the official Twitter account of the Municipal Stadium in Bialystok. As we managed to find out, a meeting between stadium representatives and representatives of the said company is scheduled for today. The latter are to inform activists about the consequences of the aggressor.

Vice President of Jagiellonia: this should never happen

We have established that, contrary to what can be inferred from the Municipal Stadium entry, the incident has not yet been officially reported to the police. Punishing the aggressor will most likely remain the responsibility of the company that invited the man to the match. He does not have to be afraid of any consequences on the part of the club.

– Representatives of the city stadium deal with the matter. The perpetrator of the incident was a guest of one of the lodge companies and we are counting mainly on the reaction of those who invited this man to the match. It was not the person who bought the ticket from the club. This man has already been identified and the case is being investigated. The situation that has taken place should never happen. We want this to be dealt with as soon as possible. After the whole incident, we talked about the event with the footballer – tells us vice president of Jagiellonia Białystok, Agnieszka Syczewska.

– The club deals with the matter and strongly condemns yesterday’s event. Thank you to the Municipal Stadium, which is responsible for the lodge zone, for your quick response. Such situations should not take place. Each of us should definitely react to hate speech and hate surrounding us – stressed the activist in social media.

That’s not the first time

This is not the first such incident involving Taras Romanczuk. In February 2019, after Jagiellonia’s meeting with Wisła Płock, the footballer told reporters that midfielder Dominik Furman called him a “Banderowiec”. The Płock player denied his words and later both players issued a joint statement.

– During the last Jagiellonia Białystok – Wisła Płock league match a deplorable incident with our participation was regretted. In this meeting there was no hard fight on the pitch, and by the way our unnecessary “battle for words” took place. Unfortunately, phrases have been made that should never fall. Everyone who played football (even at the lowest level) knows how difficult it is to control their emotions, especially those that are bad, unworthy of a self-respecting athlete – they wrote. The ax was not buried, however, and during the next match of both teams Jaga’s midfielder did not give Furman his hand.

Romanczuk has been playing on Polish playing fields since 2013. A year later he moved from Legionovia Legionowo to Jagiellonia Białystok. In March 2018 he received Polish citizenship and made his debut in the Polish national team in the match against South Korea. This is so far his only performance with an eagle on his chest.

For now, we have not been able to contact Romanczuk regarding yesterday’s incident.
