History repeats itself
After his stations in Dortmund and Mönchengladbach, Ginter has been back in Breisgau since this summer. And more than ten years after his debut game including the debut goal, the 2014 world champion celebrated his Bundesliga comeback in the Freiburg jersey on Saturday. The opponent: FC Augsburg. This time in Augsburg.
Saturday, August 6, 2022. After a goalless first half, Michael Gregoritsch and Vincenzo Grifo gave Sport-Club a 2-0 lead shortly after the break. What comes next is pure football romance. In the 61st minute, Matthias Ginter converted a volley from Gregoritsch’s header to make it 3-0 – the defender scored again in his first Bundesliga game for Freiburg. Again against Augsburg. Again he contributes to a victory for his team.
In the end, the prank team wins 4-0, the start of the season was successful. Also for Matthias Ginter. “It’s crazy to start like that, of course. We’re all very happy and happy,” he said after the end of the game. His Bundesliga comeback for SC Freiburg could not have gone better. Even if the story sounds a bit cheesy.
