The secret service claims that the network was organized by a former employee of the regional department of the SBU. He retired from service in 2014, when he left for Russia he was recruited by FSB officers.
The SBU named the curator of the network from Moscow – this is a career FSB officer Vitaliy Korol, who specializes in Ukraine. In 2015-2016, he was in the occupied part of the Donetsk region as part of the rotational task force of the FSB, he had the call sign Mongoose, the report said.
According to law enforcement officers, the agent network included an employee of the SBU in the Kherson region, an employee of the local prosecutor’s office, a police officer, an official of the State Emergency Service and a former official of the regional state administration.
“Operatives and investigators of the SBU have documented numerous facts of collecting and transmitting information through the closed electronic communication channels developed by the FSB. For the information provided, the resident received a monthly monetary reward from the Russian special service,” it was reported.
The SBU operatives conducted a search of the suspects. Computer equipment and means of communication with representatives of the FSB, Russian symbols and sums of money in dollars, euros and Russian rubles were seized from them.
The FSB resident and his agent from among the employees of the SBU were detained, they were announced suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28 (commission of a criminal offense by prior conspiracy, by an organized group or criminal organization) and Part 1 of Art. 111 (high treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions are underway on other members of the network.
