The Secretary of Health, Dr. Daniel Díaz Martínez reported that the donation of human milk benefits newborns who, for various reasons, cannot be breastfed by their mothers, premature or low birth weight babies, who are in the Unit Intensive Care Unit, this donated milk has to be processed in a milk bank, which is a place where they pasteurize, preserve, and distribute breast milk that is altruistically donated by breastfeeding mothers.
The Guanajuato Breast Milk Bank works thanks to milk donor mothers who, once they have passed the pre-donation tests and after having fed their babies, produce more milk to provide to newborns who need it.
Díaz Martínez commented that in Guanajuato there are 30 lactation plants distributed throughout the state, which feed the state Bank located in the City of Irapuato, it is in these places where mothers can go to donate human milk, meeting the necessary requirements.
He thanked the nursing mothers, since with their donations they help in the treatment of premature or low-weight children, newborns undergoing surgery who have congenital or acquired immune deficiencies after taking any medication, as well as healthy children. that need to be fed and that for some reason cannot be breastfed by their mother.
