Saras in crisis, it’s official: “Workers on layoffs until June 2021”

The agreement was there, in the end. And, for the 1378 workers of Saras di Sarroch, the only joy seems to be that they have not been fired. Nine months of layoffs: from the twenty-sixth of October to the 31st of December in the “Covid” mode, then from January to June it goes towards the “classic” one. This is the result obtained in the last videoconference confrontation between CGIL, CISL, UIL and UGL and the upper floors of the Moratti family’s company. The confirmation comes from Giampiero Manca, trade unionist and secretary general of Filctem Cgil: “The company talked about the period from the twenty-sixth of October to the thirty of June 2021: nine months of layoffs, with the use of three days a month to shift workers and, for day workers, one in October, three in November, five in December and seven per month from January to June “. With the possibility, in the first six months of 2021, “to be able to use holidays instead of layoffs. There will be a rotation and also a form of solidarity for those who do not have layoffs “, and the reference is to” workers of associated companies “.

Manca also disclosed some numbers, which certify the crisis, provided by Saras itself: “From July to September, on average, 15 million a month were lost, due to the decision not to stop the plants”. An action that led “to produce at a loss, the price of crude oil is underestimated”. The final agreement was signed by all the unions: “We managed to reduce the days of home integration, making sure that workers lose as little as possible”, observes Manca. “With this agreement it is possible to go through the period of crisis, trying to get out of it together. Redundancies have been avoided and the plants are branded ”. And the hope, confirmed once again by Saras to the trade unions, is one: “We hope that there may be a recovery from June 2021”.
