Santos: ‘My cousin Pacho must resign from the embassy and not spend money on lawyers’ – Government – Politics

Former President Juan Manuel Santos assured that it is true that there is a “malaise” in the United States due to the participation, according to him, of members of the ruling Democratic Center (CD) and the ambassador in Washington, Francisco Santos, during the campaign in favor of the now loser Donald Trump.

So, the Nobel Prize considers that the diplomat is exposed to a “slight” as of January 21, when Democrat Joe Biden is already in command of the White House.

In line with this thesis, the former president suggested that the representative of Colombia in Washington resign before January 21.

The ex-president’s statement was made in the program Yamid asks, of Channel One.

The Colombian ambassador to the United States had responded to the accusations of the former president, who assured that he sought a Pentagon contractor to intercede for Trump, with the announcement of a legal claim.

There is a game of politics and it is sad that a former president lends himself to that. He will be the one who will have to tell a judge ”, said the ambassador.

Faced with this, the former head of state replied: “I would give Pacho a cousin advice: don’t go to waste money. Lawyers are very expensive. It is a demand that has neither head nor tail. He knows perfectly well that what I said is totally true ”.

“And rather a recommendation (for Pacho Santos) would be that he left the embassy before January 21, so that he would not suddenly suffer some shameful event personally, which would have repercussions in the country “, said.

“And I know why I am telling you. There is a certain discomfort with what has happened,” argued the former president.

“I would not expose myself to a diplomatic snub, because that suits no one”, continued the ex-president in the interview with Yamid Amat.

In this he added: “So, that is the humble advice that I give to the ambassador, my cousin Pacho. The facts are there. If Mr. Cancino or Pacho himself calls me, I will tell them exactly who the person was who gave me the information, in what terms they gave me that information. So, with a little call, as they say, through informal channels, I give them all the information so they avoid the embarrassment of losing a lawsuit. “

How can you solve this situation between the two cousins? “With a call,” reiterated the former president.

Iván Cancino, the ambassador’s lawyer, spoke about the libel and slander lawsuit in Snail Radio.

“I contacted the ambassador and he told me that we are moving forward”, assured.

For the lawyer, the complaints must continue, since “This is not an accusation to any person, Santos is accusing the ambassador of interfering in a presidential election.”

“Where the ambassador does not file a complaint, that would be agreeing with Juan Manuel Santos and would endanger bilateral relations,” said the lawyer.
