Sanctions against Russia – China reloads ships with oil at sea

It is noted that due to sanctions, shipowners are increasingly refusing to transport Russian oil to China. Currently, at least one Chinese trader Unipec and shipowner Cosco Shipping are ready to reload oil at sea to ensure uninterrupted supply. This scheme is more expensive and logistically risky.

According to the publication, small vessels are used for transfers between the Russian port of Kozmino and the waters near the port of Yeosu in South Korea. There, oil is pumped to supertankers.

“While this increases the overall delivery time and costs, brokers say this practice is becoming more common as shipowners and buyers prefer such delivery by small vessels to transport oil from Kozmino in a short time: the shorter the voyages, the more often you can load available tankers,” the statement said.
