Hikers Discover Makeshift Structures under San Antonio Creek bridge
SANTA BARBARA, CA - September 3, 2025 – A Labor Day hike along San Antonio Creek led members of the Humanist Society of Santa Barbara to an unusual revelation: a series of blue loops suspended from the underside of a bridge, prompting speculation about their use as makeshift travel aids. The find occurred during a roughly six-mile hike on September 1, 2025.
The Humanist Society organizes regular outdoor events for members and the public. These hikes provide opportunities for socializing, enjoying nature, and fostering community. The San Antonio Creek hike, starting from a meadow near the furthest parking lot and incorporating a dry stream crossing, offered participants a chance to explore the local landscape. The discovery of the blue loops raises questions about potential unauthorized activity and use of the creek area.
The group began their hike at the meadow past the furthest parking lot, near the restrooms. They followed a route that eventually led them under a bridge where the loops were observed. One hiker noted the difficulty in seeing the detail, suggesting viewers open the image in a new window for a clearer view.
Following the bridge, the group retraced their steps, adding a loop through a dry stream bed before returning to the parking lot. Tatiana posed for a photo just before the final ascent.
The Humanist Society of Santa Barbara welcomes all to participate in their events. A schedule of upcoming hikes and gatherings can be found on their Meetup page: https://www.meetup.com/humanist-society-of-santa-barbara/.
