Samsung Delays XR Headset Launch, Hints at Tri-Fold device Release in November
Seoul, South Korea – Samsung has postponed the online launch of it’s highly anticipated XR headset, developed in collaboration with Google under the codename “Project Moohan,” to October 21st (October 22nd in Korea). Originally slated for a September 29th release, the delay is attributed to final coordination of marketing strategies and quality certification processes, according to ET News.
The Project Moohan headset represents a notable step in Samsung’s foray into the extended reality market, leveraging google’s Android XR platform. While Samsung anticipates having approximately 100,000 units ready for export, delivery schedules will be adjusted based on demand. Simultaneously, ET News reports Samsung is planning a separate event to unveil its long-rumored tri-fold screen device, perhaps arriving in late October or early November.
Early impressions of the Project Moohan hardware, shared by tester Scott Brown earlier this year, highlight its high build quality, agreeable design, and clear visuals, alongside controller-free navigation. However, the success of the device will ultimately depend on the optimization of its software and the overall Android XR experience.
Samsung’s progress of both the XR headset and the tri-fold device underscores the company’s commitment to innovation in display technology and immersive computing. The launch of these products could reshape the mobile landscape, offering consumers new ways to interact with digital content and potentially challenging established players like Apple in the emerging spatial computing market.
