Samsung to launch $ 900 foldable smartphone in 2021

The Galaxy Fold Lite, the foldable smartphone at a bargain price, would not be released until 2021, reveals a leak from South Korea. Samsung has indeed decided to postpone the launch of its first foldable screen smartphone sold below the 1000 euros mark.

According to information from the South Korean media Viva100, Samsung had first planned to unveil the Galaxy Fold Lite during the Unpacked conference on August 5, 2020. During this presentation, the manufacturer will simply announce the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Fold 2, a revised version of its first foldable smartphone.

The arrival of the Galaxy Fold Lite on the market would indeed have been postponed to 2021. We can expect to discover the terminal around February (during the presentation of the successors of the S20) or during the summer (with the successors of the Note 20). It is unknown why Samsung chose to postpone the release.

The Galaxy Fold Lite, a foldable “mid-range” smartphone

Also according to Viva100, the Galaxy Fold Lite would be marketed at starting price of around $ 900, or about € 900 in Europe. For comparison, the first Galaxy Fold of the name was sold at a price of 2020 euros in France. Its successor, the Galaxy Fold 2, would be sold just under 2,000 euros, or 1,000 euros than the Fold Lite.

To lower the selling price of the Fold Lite to the maximum, Samsung would cut the foldable smartphone of several features. The giant of Seoul would do in particular the impasse on 5G and would be content with 4G LTE connectivity. In terms of internal memory, the Galaxy Fold Lite would benefit from 256 GB of storage space. Finally, it would be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 SoC, the chipset announced at the end of 2019.

In order to reduce the production costs of the Galaxy Z Flip, Samsung had already opted for a similar strategy. Sold 1,500 euros, the foldable smartphone was devoid of 5G and had to settle for a Snapdragon 855+ SoC instead of a Snapdragon 865. We tell you more as soon as possible on the Fold Lite.
