Samsung has a delicate relationship with Apple: on the one hand it is the biggest competitor in the mobile phone market and on the other hand it is the main partner in the supply chain market. In a meeting between Samsung’s mobile business and its suppliers a few days ago, there was a lot of ink on the fold-screen mobile phone strategy, and it was even more predictable when Apple would launch a fold-out screen mobile phone, which is worthy of your reference.
Samsung pointed out that foldable screen phones now account for only 1% of the entire smartphone market, and as user satisfaction increases, foldable screen phones are expected to experience high growth.
In the Korean market, many 20-30-year-old iPhone users are now 3-4 times faster than before, replacing their iPhones with Samsung fold-screen phones. And 90% of fold-screen mobile phone users are predicted to be the next choice of mobile phones when they need to replace the device.
Samsung also expects Apple to launch a foldable screen device in 2024. A laptop or iPad will be launched first, rather than an iPhone, meaning we are not expected to see an iPhone with a foldable screen until 2025 at the earliest.
Samsung believes that by 2025 the compound annual growth rate of foldable screen phones will reach 80%, but will only be successful if it exceeds body weight, durability, reduction of screen creases, integrated S-Pen and improved shooting performance.
